CASA ACQUA&CIELO: nest on the Martesana canal x3
ApartmentDescription
THE SPACE:
Casa Acqua&Cielo is part of the Case Ospitali network, a network of apartments managed by hospitality professionals. Living here means immersing yourself in Milan's history while enjoying a quiet and charming retreat, overlooking one of the city's most fascinating corners.
The apartment is in an old mansion dating back to the 1700s, the “Cantun Frecc,” a building located in the Gorla neighborhood along the Naviglio Martesana canal. The name, which means “cold canton” in Milanese, comes from the fact that the sun hardly ever beat in this place, and for this reason this building was often used for cheese aging. The historic Milanese delicatessen Peck, founded in 1883 in Milan by Francesco Peck, a Bohemian charcuterie maker from Prague, used this building to season its cheeses. This stretch of canal is now one of the most photographed in the Naviglio Martesana and in the Gorla-Precotto neighborhood itself.
As soon as you cross the threshold, you will be greeted by an old courtyard and the small, romantic and elegant accommodation. In the apartment, as you enter, on the left is the bathroom complete with all sanitary ware. Continuing into the living room is the fully equipped kitchen with all necessary utensils: sink, gas stove, oven, refrigerator with freezer, coffee maker and washing machine. In the living room is the dining area, an armchair bed, television and the staircase to the loft, in the sleeping area. A cozy French bed will provide great refreshment after a busy day of work or shopping and museum visits.

NEIGHBORHOOD DESCRIPTION:
The Gorla neighborhood in the nineteenth century was nicknamed as the “Little Paris” because of the long tree-lined avenues that bordered the Naviglio and resembled the picturesque Bois de Boulogne Park.
This was because, starting in the 19th century, “Nobles' Houses” were built with attached parks, gardens, vegetable gardens, cultivation fields, mulberry orchards, and housing estates. Gorla's villas were in fact famous for their “arboreal” banks, which provided refreshment and offered majestic picturesque views, such as those of the “Cantun Frecc,” home of Acqua&Cielo.
Adjacent to Acqua&Cielo, there is Villa Finzi Park is a quaint city park next to an old villa with playground area, open spaces and leafy trees.
he Martesana canal and bike path.
Started by Francesco Sforza and completed in 1471, the Naviglio Martesana was a huge hydraulic work of the time. Used for transporting goods and people on both banks was the road that was traveled by horses pulling barges along this important waterway that connected villages with Milan, the big city. Now the use of the naviglio as a transport route has fallen into disuse after the mass advent of road transport and the seat has been turned into a beautiful bicycle path, it is on this route that the Martesana bicycle path is described, 36 kilometers on its own protected seat and almost no traffic from motor vehicles.
GETTING AROUND THE AREA:
You can take the M1 Rossa and get off at Gorla, after only 5 stops you are at Piazzale Loreto and take the M2 subway line to the train stations, or staying on the M1 in 9 stops from Gorla you get to Piazza Duomo.
For Linate airport, you can take the M1 and at San Babila change and take the M4 line that takes you to Linate in 12 minutes.
