Nicknamed the ‘Scala of football’ or ‘the temple of football’, it is one of the most internationally renowned stadiums, as well as being the largest in Italy: with its seven entrances (fifteen on big occasions), two ticket offices, three open stands and the honour stand, it can accommodate almost 76,000 people.
It has hosted World Cup and European Cup matches, Champions League finals, as well as championship matches. Numerous Italian and international artists have also chosen the Meazza San Siro Stadium for their concerts.
Designed by Ulisse Stacchini and Alberto Cugini as the official ground of the Milan football team, it was inaugurated in 1926. The structure remained in the hands of the Rossoneri until 1935, when it was purchased by the City of Milan, and from 1947 it also became the official facility of Inter, who until then played their matches at the Arena Civica.
