DESCRIPTION OF THE DISTRICT:
The Garibaldi district takes its name from the large railway station on its northern edge. It is a nice, mainly residential neighbourhood to live in: it is set back from the more hectic city centre, but still within easy walking distance. The neighbourhood has some excellent restaurants and we particularly recommend the wonderful and traditional Antica trattoria della Pesa. The district is also home to the elegant pedestrian boulevard Corso Como, with inexpensive restaurants and the legendary, eponymous lifestyle shop and bar, 10 Corso Como. Via Maroncelli is a beautiful street, with some interesting luxury designer shops along its length.
Moscova is an affluent and sober neighbourhood where you'll find elegant squares lined with expensive restaurants that cater to affluent local residents. This is an old and noble area, just north of Brera. The pace of life is fast, and it is a popular area for nightlife lovers and young people in search of the latest fashions. Fashionistas can wear their best clothes and strut their stuff all the way to the Moscova District Market, a concept store focusing on designer clothes and brand sales. After shopping, enjoy a drink in one of the quirky bars and watch the world go by in Milanese style.
The Bosco Verticale is a complex of two residential tower blocks designed by Boeri Studio (Stefano Boeri, Gianandrea Barreca and Giovanni La Varra) and located in Milan's business centre, on the edge of the Isola district. A peculiarity of these buildings, both inaugurated in 2014, is the presence of more than two thousand species of trees, including shrubs and tall trees, distributed on the elevations. This is an ambitious metropolitan reforestation project that, through the vertical densification of greenery, aims to increase the plant and animal biodiversity of the Lombard capital, reducing urban sprawl and also contributing to the mitigation of the microclimate.
GETTING AROUND THE AREA:
From Casa Alexandra you can get around by public transport throughout Milan: the location allows ample freedom to easily reach the centre with the metro, which in 4 stops takes you to Cadorna, in 5 to Citylife and in 1 stop to Stazione Centrale. San Siro is 10 metro stops from Garibaldi.
You can also walk to Brera and Chinatown in ten minutes. Corso Como and then Corso Garibaldi are a few minutes' walk from Piazza Gae Aulenti. The Biblioteca degli Alberi park is a three-minute walk away and the charming Isola district, with nightclubs (Blue Note) and fine restaurants, is also very close by.
You can stay in the area and visit the modern Piazza Gae Aulenti and its iconic shops, less than a three-minute walk away, or take the metro to the Duomo for a sightseeing tour.
